‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ to vie at Ierapetra fest

‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ is to vie at Int’l Documentary Festival of Ierapetra (IDFI) in Greece.

Iranian documentary ‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ is slated to vie at the annual Int’l Documentary Festival of Ierapetra (IDFI) in Greece.

The doc, directed by Mahmoud-Reza Sani, will be screened at the main competition section of the 7th Ierapetra film event.

Produced by Behrouz Neshan, the film depicts the late Abbas Kiarostami’s worldview and his perspective on life and cinema.

In the 90-minute documentary, Kiarostami is portrayed as a child who is exploring new games. As he says, cinema for him is like a game that allows him to step into his childhood.

‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ has won some honors at different global events, including award for best documentary feature at the 4th Salto Independent Film Festival in Uruguay.

Kiarostami has also grabbed the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 for ‘Taste of Cherry’.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director as well as a photographer.

The veteran Iranian filmmaker, who passed away at the age of 76 following a heart attack, was honored at more than 300 film events around the world.

According to the event’s official website, IDFI “creates a unique arts experience with images and sounds from all over the world.”

The 7th edition of the festival is currently underway and will wrap up on August 10, 2020.
